Light, Medium & Deep Peels

Chemical peels use carefully formulated acids to remove damaged outer layers of skin, accelerating cell turnover and triggering collagen production. The right peel for you depends on your skin concerns, skin type, and how much downtime you can accommodate.

Level 1

Light Peel

Targets the outermost layer of skin. Glycolic acid (AHA), salicylic acid (BHA), or lactic acid. Ideal for mild texture, dullness, and acne-prone skin. No visible peeling, skin may appear slightly flushed for 24 hours.

Downtime: None to minimal · $150–$250
Level 2

Medium Peel

Reaches into the upper dermis. TCA (trichloroacetic acid) or combination formulas like the VI Peel. Treats moderate hyperpigmentation, melasma, acne scars, and early sun damage. Visible peeling occurs days 3–5.

Downtime: 5–7 days · $250–$400
Level 3

Deep Peel

Penetrates into the mid-dermis using phenol or high-strength TCA. Dramatically reduces deep wrinkles, severe sun damage, and significant discoloration. Typically a one-time treatment with long-lasting results.

Downtime: 7–14 days · $400–$600

What Can a Chemical Peel Treat?

  • Hyperpigmentation and dark spots from sun exposure
  • Melasma and hormonally-driven discoloration
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) from acne
  • Active acne and clogged pores (salicylic peels)
  • Fine lines and early wrinkles
  • Rough, uneven, or dull skin texture
  • Mild acne scarring (series required)
  • Overall skin brightness and tone evening

What to Expect

1

Skin Prep (2 Weeks Before)

For medium and deep peels, we may recommend prepping your skin with retinoids or hydroquinone to improve peel penetration and reduce post-inflammatory pigmentation risk. We'll review all products you're currently using.

2

Peel Application (30–60 Min)

The acid solution is carefully applied in layers. You may feel tingling, warmth, or brief stinging, this is normal and expected. Neutralizing solution is applied to stop the process at the precise moment for your skin.

3

Recovery & Peeling

Light peels: mild redness, no visible peeling. Medium peels: skin begins to peel or flake days 3–5. You must not pick at peeling skin. Daily gentle moisturizer and strict SPF are essential throughout recovery.

Results

Fresh, smoother skin is visible once peeling completes. Hyperpigmentation lightens gradually over 2–4 weeks. A series of 3–6 light or medium peels (spaced 4–6 weeks apart) typically produces the most significant improvement.

Why Chemical Peels Are Especially Effective for Scottsdale Skin

Scottsdale's 330+ annual sunny days make sun-related hyperpigmentation, uneven tone, and accelerated aging among the most common skin concerns we treat at Revive Aesthetics. Chemical peels directly target the chromophores responsible for discoloration and stimulate the replacement of sun-damaged cells with fresh, healthy skin. We typically recommend scheduling medium and deep peels during fall and winter months (October–March) when UV intensity is lower and downtime management is easier. Patients in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and the greater Phoenix area benefit most from pairing chemical peels with a consistent SPF regimen, which we'll customize as part of your post-peel skincare plan.

Chemical Peel FAQs

How is a professional peel different from an at-home peel?

Professional peels use significantly higher concentrations of active acids than any over-the-counter product, and are applied by a trained provider who monitors your skin's response in real time. The difference in result depth and consistency is substantial. At-home peels are maintenance tools; professional peels produce measurable structural change.

Can darker skin tones get chemical peels?

Yes, with appropriate peel selection. Darker skin types (Fitzpatrick III–VI) are at higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with aggressive peels. We prioritize salicylic acid peels, lactic acid peels, and carefully applied medium-depth formulas for deeper skin tones. Pre-treatment with hydroquinone or kojic acid reduces this risk significantly.

How many peels do I need to see results?

A single medium or deep peel can produce visible improvement in hyperpigmentation and texture. For ongoing maintenance and cumulative improvement, a series of 3–6 light peels spaced 4–6 weeks apart is most effective. We'll create a treatment plan based on your specific goals.

Can I wear makeup after a chemical peel?

For light peels, mineral makeup is typically fine after 24 hours. For medium peels, we recommend waiting until visible peeling has completed (usually day 5–7) before applying any makeup. Using makeup before peeling is complete can introduce bacteria and impair healing.

What should I avoid before and after a peel?

Before: stop retinoids 5–7 days prior, avoid waxing or laser in the treatment area for 2 weeks, and disclose all active skincare products. After: no direct sun exposure, no swimming, no active ingredients (retinol, AHAs, vitamin C) until peeling completes, and apply SPF 30+ daily without exception.
